HOME ENERGY FESTIVAL IN IPSWICH MARCH 24, 2007
Energy Efficiency Program Announced
IPSWICH, MA – A Home Energy Festival will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Performing Arts Center in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Attendees will hear about the impact of greenhouse gases on climate change and will learn tips for more efficient use of fossil fuels at home. Two sessions for the general public will be followed by technical workshops for tradesmen and interested homeowners. Throughout the day, an exhibit hall and open clinic will feature the most advanced methods for conserving fuel and adopting renewable energy sources in residential settings.
Admission to the Festival is free. Due to limited seating, attendees are advised to pre-register at www.IpswichRenewableEnergy.org, the website of Ipswich Citizens Advocating Renewable Energy (ICARE).
William Moomaw, lead author of major international reports on climate change and professor of international environmental policy at Tufts University, will deliver the keynote address. In his presentation titled “How We Can Cut Our Emissions 75% and Save the Climate: The 3% Solution,” Moomaw will explain how efficiency, innovation, sound policy, and individual action can lessen future climate change.
Barbra Batshalom, LEED-certified architect and executive director of Green Roundtable, will present a session on “Best Practices in Home Energy Efficiency: Setting Priorities and Calculating Returns.” Batshalom will discuss the order of magnitude factors that influence home energy improvements and will demonstrate how payback periods can be calculated with consideration for improved efficiency, rebates, and tax credits.
Green Roundtable, a non-profit organization with the mission of mainstreaming sustainable development, will lead three technical workshops for people employed in the trades. The organization’s experts in “green” design and construction invite architects, builders, electricians, plumbers and interested homeowners to advance their knowledge of residential energy performance. Attendees will learn about energy efficient equipment, materials, and building techniques for new and existing homes.
Overall, those who attend the Home Energy Festival will be able to:
- Hear from the lead author of international reports on climate change
- Receive resources and expertise on “green” design
- Attend workshops specialized for architects, builders, and other tradespeople
- Consult 1:1 with efficiency experts regarding residential energy projects
- View exhibits of the newest products and services related to efficiency
The Home Energy Festival has been organized by the Ipswich Commission on Energy Use and Climate Protection, and is presented by the Ipswich Municipal Light Department and the Ipswich Citizens Advocating Renewable Energy (ICARE). ICARE is a grassroots community group that believes Ipswich can be an environmental leader for clean energy. The group’s mission is to promote renewable energy in Ipswich.
The Ipswich Performing Arts Center (IPAC) is located at 130-136 High Street (Route 1A). A modern facility suited for public presentations, IPAC is a part of the Ipswich Middle School/High School complex, completed in 2000.
